Industrial Visit to Power Grid Corporation of India

Industrial Visit to Power Grid   Corporation of   India
 (400/220kV Station)

By: Utkarsh

Hello everyone, today I will be sharing my experience as Industrial visit to PGCIL, Kursi road, Barabanki, Lucknow.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) or PGCIL is schedule ‘A’, ‘Maharatna’ Public Sector Enterprise of Govt. of India which was incorporated on October 23, 1989 under the company act of 1956.

I along with thirty others combined from first, second and third year of different branches who are volunteers in Tech Fusion Club at Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University, Barabanki, Lucknow visited there along with our favourite mentor Er. Abhishek Kumar Saxena sir, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Communication Engineering.

Though we were give home-work of finding and exploring what are PSUs, Navaratna and Maharatna companies but I guess no one showed interest in exploring about it seriously and thus many were blank when these things were being discussed by the chief and other people present in the grid. I knew about it as I had discussed and had asked my father about what are these and he had given me a rough idea about it.

Let me help you to understand above mentioned terms in this article itself.

Navratna companies are a group of companies in the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) that have enhanced financial autonomy. The government of India initially awarded the Navratna Status to nine public sector undertakings (PSUs) in 1997.

PSU are abbreviated as Public Sector Undertakings in India and are government owned establishments, which are established and owned by the Government of India or State Governments. Some PSUs in India are listed below:

o   Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL)

o   Container Corporation of India (CONCOR)

o   Engineers India Limited (EIL)

o   Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)

o   Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL)

o   National Aluminium Company (NALCO)

o   National Buildings Construction Company (NBCC)

In the year 2009, the government of India decided to establish Maharatna status for the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). There are certain conditions for being a Maharatna PSU. The Maharatna status gives more autonomy and authority to a company than the other categories such as Navratna or Miniratna. Maharatna CPSEs can invest from INR 1000 crore to INR 5000 crore. PSUs with Maharatna status can invest 15% of their net worth in a project without prior permission from the Government of India.

There are total 10 Maharatna companies in India:

1.    NTPC

2.    ONGC

3.    SAIL

4.    BHEL

5.    IOCL

6.    HPCL

7.    CIL

8.    GAIL

9.    BPCL

10.           PGCIL (POWERGRID)

There we first visited the conference room where we were divided into 2 groups, one of 15 and other of 16 members respectively. By the time first group explored the equipment yard, we took the tour of control room. Let me share some pictures and videos of the control room with you all.

Journey from Mahindra Bolero Neo to MG Windsor EV Pro

Shifted from a Diesel to an EV in 2026 By: Utkarsh Pandey   VS I owned a Mahindra Bolero Neo 2021 model since it was launched. Since 2008 I continuously had diesel vehicles. There was hardly any phase when I owned a car running on any fuel other than diesel. Bolero Neo is generally not considered as a family SUV rather it is robust, rough, tall and powerful vehicle, after being upgraded from TUV 3OO, it had better stability with its tougher suspension. It is not a complete 7 seater yet it's jump seats are very useful since we had to take decision of buying vehicle considering our fifth member, who is a ~8 years old German Shepherd.  We drove it around 65000 kms, it was the only car which lasted for more than 4 and a half years with us and driven passionately around norther plains to plateaus of Jharkhand. It is the best compact SUV in its segment with RWD, that too starting under 10 Lakhs for its N4 model. All those who owns it won't deny the fact of feeling the vibe of ...

Tata Sierra First Impression

Tata Sierra 2025 – My Review By: Utkarsh Pandey Hello everyone, today I visited BR Tata Motors (BR Autoventure) at Crescent Mall. The aim was to explore the newly launched Tata Sierra and understand its real-world appeal in the compact–mid size SUV segment. Segment & Dimensions Tata Sierra sits in the compact / mid-size SUV (small family SUV) segment. It follows a 5-door, 5-seater layout with a high driving position and rugged yet modern styling. Length: 4340 mm Width: 1841 mm Height: 1715 mm Wheelbase: 2730 mm Despite competing with vehicles like the Creta or Alcazar on paper, the Sierra feels noticeably different. The cabin feels airy, wide, and confidence-inspiring, rather than just another familiar SUV layout. Sunroof & Cabin Ambience The Sierra offers the largest sunroof in its segment . Although the display vehicle had a low battery and couldn’t demonstrate it fully, the openness it adds to the ...
